MP Ryan Williams named to House of Commons Health Committee

December 9, 2021

Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams was named today as a member of the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Health.  He will be one of four Conservative MPs on the committee, along with Shadow Health Minister Luc Berthold (Mégantic—L’Érable, QC), Dr. Stephen Ellis (Cumberland—Colchester, NS), and Shelby Kramp-Neuman (Hastings—Lennox & Addington, ON).

Of his appointment, MP Williams said “I am excited to be named to the Health committee.  As we continue to deal with the COVID-19 Pandemic, this committee will be tasked with working on some of the most important issues facing families across Canada.  Personally, I look forward to advancing the issues of COVID recovery, mental health, and Nurse Practitioners at committee.

“Nurse Practitioners are essential to solving the health-care provider shortage 5 million Canadian currently face.  While on Belleville City Council, I pushed for the hiring of Nurse Practitioners to help out our 15,000 residents who were without a health care provider.”

Added MP Williams “I will also be looking to advance Bereavement leave for mothers who have suffered infant loss or miscarriage.  December 9th is the sixth anniversary of my wife Allyson & my loss of our son Teddy, who was born with a congenital heart defect. Not a day goes by without us thinking of what could have been.  Thousands of mothers experience the loss of a child every year, and I am in full support of efforts to get this leave passed in the House of Commons.”
