Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams, Shadow Minister for International Trade says “25% Tariffs Would Devastate Local Manufacturing.”
Immediate Release
Belleville, ON – Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams, Shadow Minister for International Trade, is raising the alarm about the severe consequences that proposed 25% tariffs on Canadian goods could have on local manufacturing and jobs across the country. He says these tariffs would strike a devastating blow to hardworking Canadians, threaten the survival of countless businesses, and undermine the very industries that drive our economy.
“This is a moment for bold leadership. We need a strong Prime Minister who will stand up for Canadian industries, protect our workers, and fight for our country on the world stage,” said MP Williams. “Instead of defending our interests, this Liberal government continues to demonstrate weakness in trade negotiations, leaving our manufacturers and workers vulnerable.”
MP Williams highlighted the importance of a Canada First policy, one that prioritizes Canadian jobs, businesses, and industries. As Shadow Minister for International Trade, Williams is working to ensure policies protect workers, promote fair trade, and reduce the tax burden on families and businesses.
MP Williams states “Our Canada First policy is about putting Canadians first—always. That means axing taxes like the carbon tax permanently, which has made life unaffordable for too many families and increased costs for businesses. It also means standing up to unfair trade practices and negotiating better deals for our industries, so Canadian workers and jobs are protected.”
He says that Canada’s manufacturing sector is already under pressure from inflation, rising costs, and global competition and a 25% tariff would be a catastrophic setback, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises that form the backbone of local economies.
“Now more than ever, Canada needs a government that will fight for its people and its economy,” said MP Williams. “We must rebuild our international reputation and take a firm stand to ensure Canada remains competitive, innovative, and prosperous.”
The Bay of Quinte MP reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for policies that protect Canadian jobs and industries, foster economic growth, and strengthen Canada’s position in global trade.
