Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams says “Jagmeet Singh’s Shift: Too Little, Too Late for Canadians”
September 4, 2024
Belleville, Ontario – NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh announced that he was ripping up the supply and confidence agreement with the Liberal Government.
Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams released this statement:
“The fact that Mr. Singh will begin ‘voting on merit,’ is a statement that raises more questions than answers. For years, Mr. Singh and the NDP have continually supported a Liberal government whose policies have inflicted serious economic damage on Canadians. If he truly understood the struggles facing families—from soaring mortgage and rent costs, to a 35% rise in crime, to the burden of the carbon tax—he would call for an election, not simply offer vague promises of change. The facts are clear. Compared to pre-pandemic levels, rent has increased by 20%, with mortgage rates reaching record highs – an average 28.5% rise in 2023 alone. On top of rising housing costs, Canadians are facing grocery price inflation of up to 20%, exacerbating the cost-of-living crisis. Crime has surged by 35%, leaving communities feeling less secure. The very government that Mr. Singh has consistently supported has failed to address these critical issues. Mr. Singh must now decide: Will he continue to stand by a government that has overseen skyrocketing living costs and declining economic prospects, or will he do what is right and call for an election? Canadians cannot afford more of the same failed policies.”
As Parliament resumes in a week, MP Williams says “We have little reason to believe that this Liberal government—propped up by the NDP—will offer the solutions Canadians need.”
MP Williams remains committed to addressing the real challenges facing Canadians. He will be fighting for lower taxes, building affordable homes, balancing the budget, tackling crime, and strengthening international trade. The focus is on growing paycheques and creating an economy where Canadians can get ahead, not just scrape by.
